Whilst browsing the virtual shelves of my favourite online record shop Boomkat, I found a record with a brightly coloured test card style sleeve and the word “Library” included in the title. I’ve always had a soft spot for library music. It started with the 1960’s boogaloo style compilations from Blow Up, then my attention was drawn to various (and generally horrific) 80’s compilations from the likes of KPM and Bruton. I settled in the middle and favoured the gentle, simple and innocent kind of library sounds that tend to be replicated by the likes of Plone or The Advisory Circle.

Tomorrow’s Achievements: is a beautifully selected compilation of tracks from Parry Music, a Canadian Library music label. Spanning from 1976 – 86 It is a collection spacey synth studies, positive driving melodies and a good health splash of  drum beats. The only disappointment is the lack of track descriptions that frequently accompany Library records, although the track names themselves are a decent indication of the mood intended, with names such as “Sonic Rhythm” and “Drone no 1“. Aside from this Tomorrow’s Achievements: Parry Music Library 1976-86 is a great little selection of joyous Library tracks, I’m already looking forward to “Volume 2”
